zakynthos (zante)/summer vacation 2008

back to overview

After a week of getting used to the wetness and blandness of Belgium, it's time to escape back into the colorful and sunny experience that was our vacation on Zakynthos (or Zante if you wish). Cue some of the photos we took on our vacation. Mind that some of them were taken on Kefalonia, a neighboring island not too far away (about 75 minutes with the ferry).

part 1: the island

The island itself was pretty neat. Although hot as hell (~34°C) and five months without any rain, there was no lack of green. Quite a few trips over narrow mountain roads and through shallow coast waters made for some very picturesque views. Here's a small selection

part 2: blue

Apart from the green mirage of the island, Zakynthos was all about blue seas, clear water and blue skies. A few examples.

part 3: linn

If it weren't for my lovely girlfriend, I probably would've spent my vacation at home, watching films and browsing the ever expanding web. So here's a few pictures of Linn, thoroughly enjoying herself as she always does when we are on vacation.

part 4: underground

The following set of pictures were all taken on Kefalonia, where we descended into a cave and an underground lake. Needless to say, these pictures don't do any justice to the actual experience.

part 5: atmosphere

To wrap up, some shots that illustrate the warm, welcome atmosphere that lingers over the island. No better place to spend your hard-earned vacation.

and then ... back to work

Without a doubt one of the most peaceful and chill vacations we had so far. The island is absolutely beautiful, the weather was crazy and the people were all friendly as can be. Hope the pictures do it some justice, though if you have the chance, you should just check it out for yourself.
