paris - day 1
city of big buildings
On our first day, surfacing from the metro, we ran into this building. No idea what it was, but it was huge. Though that doesn't say too much when you're in Paris. About everything is huge there.
old city view
A nice combined view of greenery, buildings and monuments. Many places like this are to be found in Paris.
trip to l'arc de triomph
To reach the Arc you cannot simply cross the road. Since the square is really too big and busy you have to walk underneath the road, in a creepily lit hallway.
underneath the arc
Pic taken underneath l'Arc de Triomph. As this image illustrates, they don't know the concept of empty walls in Paris. Whenever they see a wall, they have to start carving away.
up the stairs
Going to the top of the Arc can be quite tricky. Lots of stairs to get up and quite the dizzying experience walking down.
exposition in the arc
Entry fees can be quite expensive but most "attractions" offer more than just a pretty view of the city. There's always some history and/or a little exposition to behold.
my darling meets eiffel
Pic taken from the top of the Arc, featuring my darling girlfriend right next to the famous Tour d'Eiffel.
illustrious view of paris
Dunno why this one turned out so dark but it gives a pretty illustrious view of Paris. In reality, the weather wasn't even half as bad as you'd expect from the pic.
elysees and cars
The Champs Elysées is famous for shopping, but features quite a few car expo rooms too. This one's from Toyota, featuring cars on walls. Nice.
dreaming of cars
Dreaming away next to a cool concept car of Peugeot. They had the nicest expo room of them all on the famous Champs Elysées.
clear view of the peugeot expo
A better view of the Peugeot expo room, displaying two of their coolest expo models. Though I don't think we'll be driving them anytime soon.
trip to les halles
Since we were shopping anyway we visited Les Halles after that. Three-story high enormous FNAC shop with plenty of awesome DVDs, bearing no English subs whatsoever. At least the mall itself looked sharp as can be.
inside les halles
A pic taken from the center square of Les Halles. Even though the shops there aren't all that special, it's a really cool environment in the very center of Paris to do some shopping.
les halles by night
Time flies when flying through Les Halles. Not in the least because you can literally get lost in there. At least it makes for a nice pic.
la republique
This is where our hotel was, or at least close to our hotel. A nice and big square with a nicely lit statue in the middle. And lots of traffic, even at night.
arriving at our hotel
Our hotel, giving us a bed, a shower great breakfast. You don't need anything else on a good city trip. And that's where day 1 ended for us.
