Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Annoying action flick that does little justice to the TMNT legacy. The look of the film is nice, but the characters are irritating, the comedy is weak and the action scenes are pretty boring. Drab and unexciting Hollywood cinema that keeps you occupied, but little else.
One of the better bee docs. Shows how different nationalities got involved with bees, though the overall vibe is quite negative. That said, the doc isn't all that gloomy and doomy, the message is clear and comes across loudly. If you want watch a good bee doc, make it this one.
The Eagle Shooting Heroes
Bonkers Hong Kong comedy. I do have to admit I liked it better the first time around, the film is kinda sloppy in its execution. Still, the pacing is insane, the jokes are crazy and Lau drummed up some familiar faces who have no problem making a complete fool out of themselves.
Amusing film that maps out how Tommy Wiseau's The Room (famous for being one of the worst films ever) came to be. The Disaster Artist is funny but never feels like simple or cheap amusement at the expense of Wiseau, no matter how bad his film was, nor how excentric his personality is.
Fairly simple action film that's streamlined to perfection. Not that it's very memorable cinema, then again it never tries to be. Instead it aims to entertain by cutting out the cruft that gets into the way when directors fail to elevate their film. Nothing is great, but everything's above par.
Amusing e-sports film. Doesn't differ too much from a regular sports film to be honest, but Wang (not the famous one) executes it rather well. The in-game scenes are a little cheesy and the ending is pretty predictable, but it's a fun and harmless diversion from start to finish.
Not so much a film as it is an excuse to keep the rights to the franchise. The lore is just beyond ridiculous, the direction is flat and talentless, the effects absolutely rubbish. It's really just a police flick with some random shots of Pinhead in between as a reminder you're watching a Hellraiser film.
Hong Kong cinema done right. Not a film that will surprise or overwhelm, but if you've been craving some solid Hong Kong police action, Jonathan Li has you covered. Dark, grim and sporting one of the better bad guys in a long time, The Brink is a classy genre film that aims to please.
