Plot: A once-in-a-century earthquake is predicted to hit Japan. To protect its citizens, the Japanese government has been given extra tools to control the population. When some high school kids pull a prank on their headmaster, the school is inspired by their government, and they install a new surveillance system that tracks the students at all times and deducts points when they don't obey the rules. Not everyone is happy with these changes. The foreign students feel singled out, and they also take inspiration from the outside world to revolt against the school board.

A rather typical Japanese coming-of-age drama set against a genre-fueled backdrop. It's an interesting mix with a balance that never tilts to the genre side, even though its impact is felt in every scene. Strong performances, a great score, slick cinematography, and a nice blend of themes make this a quality release, directed by Ryuichi Sakamoto's son. It's not so much a revolution as it is a gentle shift, but in time, Sora could give the genre a much-needed makeover.
