A rather spicy Thai film that masquerades as a romance but contains some darker and edgier themes. Thai cinema tends to be somewhat prudish, so it's a bit of a surprise that Jan Dara became a success. Or maybe that's exactly why people took notice when this was first released.
The presentation is slick, and the yellow-tinted cinematography feels warm and inviting. The performances are solid, and the story contains some interesting twists, but some of the scenes did turn out to be a tad too heavy-handed and cheesy. It was still fun the second time around, just not quite up there with my all-time favorites.
