You can think of this as a live-action Ninja Scroll. It looks a bit older than its actual age, and the rock-inspired score doesn't help, but the film offers a bonkers mix of action and fantasy, which should appeal to everyone who likes a bit of maximalist excess. Just don't expect anything too stylish.
It felt like a precursor to the Sushi Typhoon madness, but with more focus on plot and lore, rather than pure unadulterated entertainment. The film's a bit long and there are slight pacing issues, but when the action/fantasy scenes take center stage, this is one hell of a ride. Good stuff.
