Plot: When Susanne returns home after the war, she finds a man living in her house. He was a war surgeon, but the war traumatized him so much that he became unable to treat people. When his former captain turns up, the man pays him a visit, but it's clear that there is some unfinished business between the two.

It's no real surprise that Germany's first post-WWII film deals with the aftermath of the war. It's a film that mixes romance and noir elements but does so in a rather forced and uneasy manner. The drama never really impresses, due to some lackluster performances and a wonky plot.
The cinematography is decent and it was interesting to see a classic German film toy around with the noir aesthetic. I didn't care much for the characters or the plot though, and the drama was a bit too melodramatic for my taste. Not the worst classic I've watched, but not a very memorable one either.
