Plot: Growing up in 60s USA, life isn't easy for Elwood. He's being wrongfully accused of a crime, and he's sent to a reformatory school to mend his ways. The school is being run by a corrupt management, which further complicates things. Luckily, he gets to know Turner, and the two become close friends.

Didn't care so much about the plot, but the presentation was interesting enough. I have no clue why they went for a 4:3 aspect ratio (it made even less sense than usual), but the POV camera work was fun and Ross took some liberties to stray away from the narrative whenever he felt like it.

The drama felt a bit pedestrian, and 140 minutes is a large chunk of time, but there were some interesting stylistic choices that kept me engaged. I do think Ross could've taken things even further, but for a more commercial film, this was a nice change of pace. Not as bad as I expected it to be (my trust in the Academy is low), but I can see why they went for this film.
