How much Hollywood cheese can you stomach? That seems to be the question this film is answering. Sports films tend to be hammy to begin with, and this almost saint-like portrait of a baseball player leans into it with everything it's got. It's an ode to Lou Gerigh, but I doubt anyone outside of his fanbase would really care.

The performances are silly, the film is way too polished even to pretend it's anything close to realistic, and two hours is too long for a simple sports flick. It's a relic of bygone times, from a nation that seems to be slowly losing its soft power over the rest of the Western world. Forgettable in every way.
