A somewhat odd project. The Specialist is a B-actioner in almost every sense of the word, apart from featuring Sharon Stone, a true powerhouse at the time. Not sure why she accepted the job, not that she's a great actress but a film like this is clearly above her stature. On the other hand, it's not the worst action flick with Stallone I've seen.

Ray is a skilled bomb maker. When one of his bombs kills an innocent girl, he retreats from his job and becomes a man for hire, who chooses his work carefully. His former boss isn't too happy with the situation and he sets up a trap to try and catch his former student. That turns out to be a lot more difficult than expected.

Stallone is a pretty bad actor, the plot is cheesy and Llosa isn't much of a director. But the action scenes are proper, there are some inventive moments, and even though the film's a tad too long, the pacing is fine. If you like 80s/early 90s action flicks it's an easy recommendation, if not, you can skip this one without too much worry.
