Not what I expected, but that's because my knowledge of Irish history just isn't good enough. This isn't a movie about "Bloody Sunday", couldn't have been since it was released one year before these events. Instead, it's a drama about a menage a trois and homosexuality. Oh well.

Bob is a charming guy, who likes both men and women. He is in a relationship with one of each, and while his parents are aware of the setup, they aren't that keen on sharing Bob with the other. Both are unwilling to go against him though, fearing they might lose him if they limit his freedom.

The performances are decent and the story is quite easygoing, especially for a film that is more than half a century old. The direction is pretty bland though and the drama isn't all that notable by modern standards. It didn't bore me, but I don't think I'll remember much of it in a week or so.

Somewhat better than expected. Most UK classics tend to be rather stuffy and uptight, Darling is a film that reminded me more of the French Nouvelle Vague. Not quite as frivolous or playful, but it didn't feel as rigid and dusty as many of its peers. It's a shame the film is a bit too long.

Diana files for divorce as she wants a new life for herself. She becomes a model and actress and strives for fame. One night she meets Robert, a TV personality. He is completely smitten by Diana's presence and he leaves his family to be with her. He takes her to high-profile parties, where she bumps into Miles.

Christie's performance is decent and her headstrong character adds some needed flair to the film. The first half is fun, the second half becomes a bit repetitive though, with Diana clinging to various men in order to get where she wants to be. Not quite as good as its French counterparts, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
