A Statham vehicle. Yes, the film could've been a little shorter, and people who don't care for Statham should avoid this at all costs. But I'm not one of them. I'm not his biggest fan, but I appreciate his stoic British style and I usually find his films quite amusing, no matter how formulaic they may be. Ayer is also a suitable director, the cinematography is slightly better than usual, and even though the runtime is excessive, the pacing is decent. It's simple action fare, I'm a bit surprised the film made it into movie theaters over here, but if you're looking for some simple entertainment, it won't disappoint.Read all
A typical Statham vehicle. If you've seen a couple of Statham action flicks, you know very well what to expect. The guy is a one-guy army who tears through a bunch of forgettable baddies on his way to the main villain. It's not the wildest film of the year, but if you like this kind of thing, it's fun. Statham is his usual self, there are some decent action scenes and the pacing is solid. The rest of the cast isn't great, the plot is inconsequential and there are no big surprises, but it hardly matters when you're okay with a barebones action flick. A rather typical American action/thriller flick, or what did you expect with Schwarzenegger headlining the film. Luckily Ayer doesn't pull any punches, making sure the action is surprisingly raw and gruesome. There's very little here beyond the genre elements, but at least they're done well.
A pretty raw and straightforward crime/action film. Cops turning on each other, gun fights and a soulless twist at the end. It's nothing new, but Ayer executes it with enough gritty flair for it to work. It's a pretty simple genre film, but if you're in the mood for some crude yet entertaining cop action this is not a bad option.
