Slightly more refined and polished than the other Yang films I've seen, but he still cannot make me care about his characters, not their mundane problems. I did appreciate the more distant, restrained approach, but Yang simply lacks the class and eye for detail needed to make a film like this work.
Another disappointing Yang. It's fun to see Hsiao-hsien Hou act I guess, apart from that Yang's characters, his somewhat plain style of direction and the tepid drama simply don't do it for me. The film just hobbles along, and while never truly horrible or irritating it completely fails to capture my attention.
