Cute fantasy film that scores on world building and production values, but is a bit too cheesy, sentimental, and predictable to be fully satisfactory. I wish they'd gone for something different than abandoned kids and xenophobia, but around the 10-minute mark, it's obnoxiously obvious how this entire film will pan out. The performances are solid, and the island looks lovely. The cinematography is dreamy, but with a layer of grit, the score is fitting, and the CG is pretty nice. I'm sure it's a lovely film for kids, as there's enough creativity and originality to knock most of its competitors out of the park. It's just that I was hoping for a little extra. Read all
