An interesting mystery that loses a lot of goodwill thanks to some lazy and dumb twists. The Verity character is interesting, but the reason why she is able to manipulate the reality around her is a lot less so. It's a pitfall that has tripped up many of the Black Mirror episodes, and Haynes didn't find a way to direct himself out of it. The performances are okay, the setup of the mystery is fun, and the midway point builds up the intrigue well enough. The presentation is a little flat, but considering Haynes' background, that was to be expected. It's not the worst of the series, but it's not exactly a memorable piece of cinema either.Read all

Another rather random Black Mirror entry. I don't get why this film is set in '79 (apart from wanting to feature a Boney M character), I don't see the big appeal of the story, nor did I think the horror elements were expertly executed. This 6th season felt like a lesser version of Cabinet of Rarities. The demon appears as her heartthrob, the rest of the film tries to balance comedy and horror, but neither element gets much room to shine. Maybe the series would do good to seek out more capable directors, or at least give them more say in what to do with the shorts, because something isn't adding up here. It's a pretty meek film, but at least it was shortish.Read all
