Lupin III: Elusiveness of the Fog poster

It's been a while since I last watched a Lupin III film, so I figured it would be fun to try and catch up with a few of the remaining ones. Elusiveness of the Fog sounded like a pretty appealing title, but it's a pretty plain time travel adventure that doesn't really feel like a core Lupin III film, even though all the elements are there.

Read all

Mamo Kyosuke returns as villain 35 years later. He is now in possession of a time machine, which sends Lupin and his frenemies back in the past. There he ends up in the middle of a war, where he has to find a special crystal in order to save his future. If that sounds like a million other Lupin stories, it's because they're all pretty much the same.

The art style and animation look rather cheap and time travel is usually a last resort for a franchise that has no idea where to go next. What's mostly lacking here is the fun and over-the-topness of the better entries in the franchise. It all feels a bit safe and expected, which is not what I want out of a Lupin III film. It's not the worst, but certainly one of the plainest in the franchise.
