Plot: Finn and his friends go on a little retreat to clear their minds. They found an island, but once there it's not quite how they pictured it to be. The place is deserted and the one old man who lives there isn't all that friendly. When they stay the night anyway, they are visited by a ghost who dredges up memories from their past.

A very stylish genre exercise, which is a bit atypical for a Hong Kong horror. Not that they can't do horror, but It Remains feels different. Maybe it's because the premise feels closer to Western horror, or maybe it's just the focus on the overall styling (including the score) that made this one stand out.

It's a shame the plot's a little too basic, it would've been nicer if Kelvin Shum had done something a little more leftfield than just another ghost story based on past trauma. But the cinematography is lush, the score is haunting and there are some incredibly moody scenes. Shum is one to watch, definitely recommended if you're a horror fan.
