A very stylish genre exercise, which is a bit atypical for a Hong Kong horror. Not that they can't do horror, but It Remains feels different. Maybe it's because the premise feels closer to Western horror, or maybe it's just the focus on the overall styling (including the score) that made this one stand out. It's a shame the plot's a little too basic, it would've been nicer if Kelvin Shum had done something a little more leftfield than just another ghost story based on past trauma. But the cinematography is lush, the score is haunting and there are some incredibly moody scenes. Shum is one to watch, definitely recommended if you're a horror fan. Read all
