Glorification of the 70s rock scene. I guess it's nice if you like the music and have some kind of affinity with the scene, but I'm a bit bored with people and films wallowing in past glory. Crowe's direction isn't bad and the pacing is decent, but it's just not enough to fill a 2.5h film. Dull.
Pretty poor and pointless comedy/drama. The actors aren't really to blame, they did their best, instead it's Crowe who fails to make anything worthwhile out of this film. The whitewhashing hype surrounding Aloha was a bit overblown, the problem is the quality just isn't there. A pretty forgettable affaire.
A rather mediocre romance that takes way too long to come to a conclusion and relies too heavily on performances that aren't all that great. It's all pretty cliché and boring, the life lessons are cheap and deceptive and both Zellweger and Cruise fail to make the romance captivating. When Cuba Gooding Jr. is the best actor in a film, things aren't all that.
A pretty simple 80s romcom slash coming-of-age drama centered around a bunch of teens. In all honesty, that's probably all you need to know to decide whether this film is for you. It's a basic genre film that will appeal to people who like this kind of 80s stuff, others will find very little here. Lloyd is a free-spirited boy who isn't too interested in doing well at school, Diane is top of her class and won a prestigious grant. The two appear to be exact opposites, but when they meet each other something clicks and before long they become a couple. Diana's father isn't happy with their relationship. The characters are bland, performances are mediocre, and the plot is extremely predictable. It's all very much by the numbers and my appreciation for this type of American teen drama has been declining dramatically in the past decade. I didn't care for any of it, but the film itself is competently made.Read all
