Bong Joon Ho's latest has a fun premise, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and doesn't squander its finale, but the whole "multiples" narrative in the middle dragged down the film. I didn't really care for Pattinson and Ruffalo, the rest of the cast fared better. Overall, the film's a little uneven.

It's not quite goofy enough to be a true comedy, it's not edgy enough to be a real satire, the sci-fi is a bit too fantasy-inspired, and the fantasy elements are a little plain. But it's a relatively original big-budget sci-fi flick, and there aren't too many of those around. It was an amusing enough film, I just hoped for more.

Decent but somewhat inconspicuous film unworthy of all the hype. Bong is a fine director and there are a few decent scenes that stand out, but the first hour is very repetitive, the second one feels aimless and the rest of it is just solid, but hardly anything to get excited about. Beats me what all this praise is for, but it's not a bad film.

3.11 Sense of Home

I'm a vocal fan of anthology films, but there is a specific niche that I don't care for at all. When the films are very short and made to celebrate/pay tribute to some or other event, the results can be very amateurish. 3.11 Sense of Home is one of those films. Don't be fooled by the directors on display, there's no great cinema here.

Not a single one of the short films was memorable. The technical qualities of the films are subpar, the topic is handled with limited respect, and most of the entries felt like hobby projects. At least the variety carried me through the shortish runtime, but this could've been so much better. Disappointing.
