A mediocre sci-fi thriller that deploys Schwarzenegger as if he had landed in a regular 80s action flick. The tone of the film is a bit messy and the action, sci-fi and thriller elements don't really work very well together, but separately there are some decent scenes that at least kept me interested. Schwarzenegger is Schwarzenegger. He's a bulky dude that can't act very well, but he has presence and charm. He's a great action hero, but as a family man who has to discover the truth about a clone that has taken over his life, he inevitably struggles. His casting makes about as much sense as Bullock's casting in The Net. The 6th Day is not a very good film, but at least the pacing is decent and there are some solid action scenes. Even though it's almost two hours long, it doesn't drag or get boring. It's just a shame they didn't put a little more effort into the sci-fi elements, because the setup was interesting enough. Spottiswoode just isn't a good enough director to do something nice with it.Read all

Brosnan's second Bond is a somewhat middling affair. Director Spottiswoode revisits some old settings/tricks and piles on a bunch of additional action. The problem is that Brosnan isn't the best action hero and with so many things blowing up, there isn't that much time left for him to be his most charming self. Brosnan doesn't quite feel at home with so many bullets flying around, Yeoh's martial arts skills are underused and Pryce must be one of the blandest bad guys yet. There are some nifty action scenes and the film's a tad shorter than usual, but there's nothing really memorable about this Bond entry.Read all

80s buddy cop film. Only someone thought it would make sense if Tom Hanks was a cop and his buddy cop was a dog. It's really as lame as it sounds and time hasn't done this film any favors. It's really just generic shelf filler that goes through the motions simply because Hanks is a bankable actor. I'm not a big Hanks fan, so there's that. I'm also not a big fan of 80s buddy cop movies, nor of movie dogs. The bland attempts to mix in romance and even some drama fail horribly, the action is dim, the crime elements are lazy and the ending is so sappy it's almost embarrassing to watch. Not a great film.Read all
